Update: Cemetery Hunting

I have not had a chance to follow up with the cemetery. Why? It is expensive….actually it is reasonably price. Once I buy my car, I will pay to have the researchers at Laurel Hill Cemetery complete my genealogy request.

How much are we talking?

–Rachel Ellerbee $25
–Nancy Sams $20

Then I have to search for the graves of Rachel’s husband, who I hope is in a plot beside her, Henry Sams Sr., Henry Sams Jr., and Vincent Flowers. Well over $100. I am simply a graduate student. Check the definition and you will see the word broke all over it.

Luckily the website noted that you can search their online records for free; however, it may have done more harm than good. The search for Nancy Sams and Rachel Ellerbee led to zero results. I am surprise because Nancy’s death certificate states that she is buried here. But there may be a good reason for. On the second page of this online database it states,

We are currently in the process of raising funds for the second phase of our records digitization. The successful completion of this phase will result in a digitally accessible copy of every interment record and lot file contained in Laurel Hill Cemetery’s Archives, from 1836 to the present day.Gifts to the Archives Preservation Project are fully tax-deductible. Make your donation online today, or send a check made payable to
The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery

I pray that this is the reason that the search resulted in zero hits.

I also searched for other family members and the results remained the same.

Until the next post,

Kept it short:)
